the St. Tammany
Amateur Radio Club is located in Covington Louisiana and holds its meetings at the
American Red Cross office. Even though we have very few members, our club along
with volunteers from other local clubs and from across the nation provided communications
for the Red Cross, Salvation Army and emergency managementafter hurricane Katrina struck
our area. our club has one UHF repeater on 444.300 mhz, with a PL tone of 114.8.
Currently the repeater is in operation in Covington, however, until we are able to gain
access to a tower the repeaters antenna is at 60 ft..Hopefully by the 2007 hurricane season we will have move repeater to a tower that will allow us to get the antenna at least 150 ft., and the ability to have emergency power in case we are here again with another category 4 or 5 hurricane. our repeater also has the ability to length to other repeaters by pointing a Yagi at any VHF repeater within 50 to 75 mi. as the linking radio acts like a mobile talking to the VHF repeater, and is tied into our repeater through the cat 200 controller. |

| The other club in St. Tammany Parish is the Ozone Amateur Radio club which is located in Slidell, Louisiana. this club is much older, has more members and operates two repeaters with good coverage over most of St. Tammany Parish. During hurricane Katrina many of their members were nonstop providing communications for the Eastern half of the parish, and their members upheld the finest traditions of amateur radio in disaster services. | ||
