What
is Milwaukee/Waukesha ARES?
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) consists of
licensed amateur radio operators (hams) who have voluntarily registered qualifications and
equipment for communications duty in the public service during disasters. ARES is
committed to protect life and property during an emergency. Membership in the ARRL or any
other organization is not required, just a valid Amateur Radio license.
Participation in ARES is voluntary and you may quit at any
time. While it makes sense to join ARES before you are needed, there is nothing to prevent
you from offering your services at any time to aid in an ARES emergency response.
The American Radio Relay League administers ARES. Any
member can activate the ARES group. ARES provides emergency radio communications to
a number of clients groups, including local government and the American Red Cross.
The Milwaukee/Waukesha ARES is supported financially by the
Amateur Radio Emergency Corp. Inc. (AREC).
